Two basic questions in the field of language acquisition are (1) whether or not some part of language, particularly the structure of the language, is innate or whether it is all learnable from the input, and (2) whether acquisitional mechanisms are domain specific—that is, used only for language—or whether they are domain general—that is, used for learning across a variety of domains.
