Abstract

The mild conversion of primary and secondary alcohols into corresponding aldehydes and ketones using the mixture of dimethyl sulfoxide and acetic anhydride as the oxidant is known as Albright-Goldman oxidation. This reaction is important because it has been used for sterically hindered alcohols and also for carbohydrate transformation.
