Abstract

Hydroxamic acid is an important reagent and has been found in a variety of applications in inorganic, organic, and pharmaceutical chemistry. Hydroxamic acids have been prepared from aldehyde and benzosulfohydroxamic acid. This reaction is known as Angeli–Remini reaction. Hydroxamic acid is used for various purposes such as antibiotics, inhibitors, and strong metal ion-chelators. As of today, different methods for the preparation of hydroxamic acids have been developed.
