Abstract

The thermal rearrangement of aryl imidates to N,N-diaryl amides is generally known as the Chapman rearrangement. It has been reported that this rearrangement follows approximately a first-order kinetics and proceeds readily with high yields in either polar or nonpolar solvents. Besides this, the reaction can even take place in a solid state.
