Abstract

The Gassman indole synthesis has been used to prepare many types of substituted indoles via a sequential treatment of anilines by tert-butyl chlorite, β-keto sulfide, triethylamine, and Raney nickel if desulfurization is needed. Many advantages have been demonstrated over the most common methods for the preparation of indoles, such as Fischer indole synthesis. This reaction has wide application in the synthesis of a variety of substituted indoles.
