There are several methods for the preparation of acridones and the method for the preparation of acridones between o-nitrobenzaldehyde and halobenzene is found to be the most acceptable and this reaction is generally known as the Lehmstedt–Tanasescu reaction. In addition, this preparation of acridone is also referred to as the Tanasescu synthesis. This method has also been further explored to the reaction between anthranilic acid and chlorobenzene and found to be of limited application for the preparation of acridone derivatives.
