Abstract

The α-hydroxyl phenyl acetic acid is known as mandelic acid. The present study represents the various methods for the preparation of optically pure mandelic acid. The preparation of the mandelic acid has been modified because sodium cyanide is extremely poisonous. Mandelic acid and its derivatives have been found very useful in the pharmaceutical industry.
