Abstract

The base-promoted transfer of a diazo group from an azide to an active methyl or methylene moiety of a substrate with one or more electron-withdrawing groups is known as the Regitz Diazo transfer. Many azides have been developed for this reaction.

The study finds that the reaction has some intrinsic drawbacks. This reaction has been extensively modified using different diazo sources. This reaction has been applied in organic synthesis, especially for the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of diazo compounds.
