Abstract

The thermal transformation of thioncarbonates (O-aryl) into thiolcarbonates (S-aryl) is known as the Schönberg rearrangement. It has been established that aryl thioncarbonates (or xanthates) that lack a β-hydrogen atom, undergo this kind of rearrangement. This reaction has wide application in the synthesis of substituted thiophenols.
