The synthesis of an olefin via the pyrolysis of an alkyl selenoxide is generally known as selenoxide elimination or selenoxide pyrolysis. It has been reported that the selenoxide is reluctant to undergo further oxidation and the preparation of selenoxide can be achieved by different oxidants. In addition, the selenoxide elimination has shown good regioselectivity for the asymmetrical ketones. This reaction has general application in organic synthesis to form olefinic derivatives.
