Summary

This chapter considers some of the people who will be involved with the project. The project manager (PM) will be the key person on the project. The chapter also focuses on the sponsor’s role. The sponsor can help the PM to understand how his project fits into the corporate strategic direction and how it fits with the reward system of the company. Stakeholders include anyone with an interest in the project. One special stakeholder is the management within the corporation or the organization that is doing the project. Another group of stakeholders that must be seriously considered is the set of functional managers whose people are working on the project. The chapter looks at the projects from the following perspectives: incumbent established carriers; newcomers to the telecom field; established companies in other areas who are new entrants to telecom; and manufacturers.
