Abraham Kuyper's first parishioners led him from the convictions of 19th century liberal theology to those of evangelical Calvinism that would characterize the rest of his life and influence Dutch society. Kuyper became the editor of many Christian publications, an MP, leader of the Antirevolutionary Party (the first modern mass political organization in the Netherlands), founder of the Free University of Amsterdam, and Dutch prime minister. Though largely abandoned by Dutch culture, Kuyper's evangelical Calvinism remains influential on contemporary American evangelicalism.
