Avant garde Polish composer whose atonal, serial, and electronic music explored the frontiers of liturgical music with special dramatic effects such as tone clusters, instrumental and vocal glissandi, percussive devices, and instrumental techniques such as sul ponticello (in which a stringed instrument is bowed near the bridge).
