Taizé is a monastic community that originated in southeast France. Taizé was founded in 1940 by Roger Schutz-Marsauche (1915–2005) who had a strong burden for Christian groups in conflict with one another and for the concerns of humanity. Brother Roger had a vibrant ministry to refugees fleeing persecution during the 1940s and gave a home to prisoners of war after World War II.
