Abstract

Evangelist, author, and missionary, William Taylor served the Methodist Episcopal Church (MEC) in a career that spanned more than half a century (1842–1896), during which he pioneered independent evangelical missions to Australia, India, Latin America, and Africa. He was, moreover, America's first missionary bishop to Africa (Hempton 2005: 175).
