Hong Xiuquan (Hung Hsiuch'uan), born January 1, 1814, in Fuyuanshui, near Guangzhou (Canton); died June 1, 1864. The fourth child in a Hakka family of five children, whose father, Hong Jingyang, was a small-time farmer.
