The current study deals with the thermochemistry of organoselenium and organotellurium compounds in which we focus on the enthalpy of formation, with additional mention of other quantities such as Gibbs free energy, chemical equilibria and bond energies. The chapter starts with a discussion of the energetics of binary carbon selenides and tellurides and related ternary species, proceeds to aliphatic selenides and tellurides, then the oxygen-containing selenoxides, selenones, telluroxides, tellurones, selenenates and tellurenates, and concludes with aronmatic selenides and tellurides including aryl selenides, selenophenes and tellurium counterparts.
