Governing equations including derivations for structural members under torsion and bending are presented. The emphasis is placed on thin-walled structures. The formulation for torsion problems is based on the Saint-Venant torsion displacement assumption and solutions are obtained using the Prandtl stress function. Bi-directional bending of beams is considered. Methods for calculating shear flows produced by combined bending and torsion loads are presented. The concept of shear center is discussed.
