Summary

This chapter presents the concepts and cost-effective fabrication by aqueous chemical growth of advanced visible-light active nanostructures consisting of vertically oriented metal oxide quantum rod-arrays. These nanostructures show high surface area, oriented direct pathways for photogenerated electron/hole carriers, new morphology with functionalized surfaces, engineered bandgap for stability against photocorrosion as well as optimized band edges and solar absorption profile for direct solar-to-hydrogen generation.
