Summary

Issues related to the design of a comprehensive reading evaluation and report writing are presented. Particular focus is given to the importance of good referral questions, an instructional history, and background history from educators, parents, and students themselves. A top-down approach to assessment is recommended; potential components of a comprehensive assessment are reviewed. Recommendations are included on how to work with examinees and how to learn new tests for novice evaluators. The use of a template for report writing is recommended with the goal of reducing the time spent on writing and the potential for errors. Recommendations for style, proofing, and presentation of the report are provided.
