Abstract

The present articles deals with polymeric matrixes for composite systems. Both thermoplastic and thermoset matrixes are discussed with reference to their structure-property relationship, processing techniques, and application exploitation. The more recent modification strategies for tailoring of relevant matrix properties are presented in this article. Owing to the complexity of the subject preferentially commercially viable solutions were presented. The idea behind this choice is to give the readers useful references to what is readily available on the market to help them to address design choices or, for new comers in composite field, to give them a quick and practical update of the most used polymeric matrixes for composites. Nonetheless, for some specific topics such as, for example, nanocomposites and green composites, some recent results from fundamental research are given. The perspectives are also discussed with reference to state of the art.
