Abstract

Polyetherimide (PEI) polymers have, since their discovery, increasingly found usage in a variety of applications that require high temperature performance with good processability. The combination of being able to be melt and solvent processed has resulted in a variety of composite product forms that can be cost effectively converted into high performance composite parts. This article reviews the performance, processability, and applications of currently available commercial PEI-matrix-based composite materials. The article also discusses the constituent polymer properties and how those properties are used in the performance and processing of these materials.
