Summary

This chapter discusses IEEE 802.15.3 standard in detail. There are two key elements to the 802.15.3 piconet: the piconet coordinator (PNC) and the device (DEV). The 802.15.3 PHY operates in the 2.4-2.4835 GHz frequency band that is available as an unlicensed band in most of the countries in the world. Dependent piconets are wireless personal area networks (WPANs) that rely on the parent piconet for their channel time and synchronization. IEEE Std 802.15.3 provides a variety of commands that are used to get information about other DEVs in the piconet or about the current channel conditions. One of the key advantages of IEEE Std 802.15.3 is its support of power management modes. One of the most important goals in the development of IEEE Std 802.15.3 was to create a standard for which low-cost implementations could be built.
