Summary
This chapter is an introduction to the section on psychological processes in eating disorders (EDs) that offers some new perspectives on the theoretical understanding of EDs. Over recent years, emotional difficulties within EDs have started to be recognized and this section of the research aims to capture some of the main debates and research upon this topic. The section offers a significant snapshot of some of the key research, theoretical perspectives and arguments within the field of EDs. It is not meant to be a comprehensive section, but a taster for the reader to gain a sense of these debates so they can inform their research and clinical practice.
