Summary

This chapter outlines the approach to the reporting of equivocal or borderline nevomelanocytic proliferations and addresses borderline or minimal deviation melanoma as defined by Richard Reed. It offers a categorical approach to the borderline melanocytic proliferation. The proliferations can be divided into those which are superficial versus those which are deeper seated melanocytic proliferations. The diagnostic approach to the histomorphology and recommendations regarding therapeutic strategies are described in the chapter.
