Summary

Nanomedicine is the application of nanotechnology to the field of medicine. With medical nanorobots in hand, doctors will be able to quickly cure most diseases that hobble and kill people today, rapidly repair most physical injuries our bodies can suffer, and vastly extend the human healthspan. This application of nanotechnology to the improvement of human health is the most visionary branch of nanomedicine, called medical nanorobotics. The ability to build nanorobots cheaply and in therapeutically useful numbers will revolutionize the practice of medicine. Performance improvements up to 1,000-fold over natural biological systems of similar function appear possible. Nanomedicine may permit us first to arrest, and later to reverse, the biological effects of aging and most of the current medical causes of natural death, severing forever the link between calendar time and biological health.
