Summary

Interpretation of ultrasound findings starts with observing real-time duplex images or multidepth motion mode displays, and continues with the spectral analysis of blood flow waveforms. This chapter describes practical parameters measured by cerebrovascular ultrasound that I document and use to interpret sonographic findings in day-to-day practice. These measurements form the basis for application of currently accepted diagnostic criteria as well as the differential diagnosis of vascular problems as it applies to carotid duplex and transcranial Doppler studies.
