Summary

Detail of REACH requirements in respect of the basics of how exposures and risks are assessed. This chapter discusses the assessment and quantification of human exposure; it covers workers in both industrial and professional use situations, consumers, exposure of people to chemicals in the environment and risks due to physico-chemical hazards such as explosivity. REACH relies upon a flow of information along the supply chain which is facilitated by the use of the descriptor system (SU, PC, PROC, ERC and AC). Models are described.
