Summary

Alkene metathesis is discussed in terms of mechanism and the large number of variant reaction types possible. Selectivity in cross metathesis is linked to the relative reactivities of the partner reactants. Dimerization, oligomerization, and polymerization of alkenes follows with special reference to the microstructures achievable in polypropylene with various metallocene catalysts. CO and CO2 chemistry is briefly covered, followed by CH activation. An outline of green and energy chemistry and its goals completes the discussion.
