Summary

Oils and oilseeds are important renewable resources for production of bioproducts. This chapter covers both conventional and advanced processing techniques used for oil and oilseed processing and their environmental impacts. Effect of processing on final product properties, and by-product and waste generation are also highlighted. Various extraction techniques and importance of solvent choice for oil recovery from oilseed are discussed. Mechanical, aqueous, enzymatic, supercritical CO2 and hexane extraction of important oilseeds are reviewed. Recent developments in crude oil refining processes are also included in this chapter.
