Abstract

This article provides an overview of the inorganic and coordination chemistry of iridium, beginning with a summary of physical properties, accessible oxidation states, and common coordination geometries. Solid-state compounds are summarized with pertinent examples. Mononuclear compounds and complexes are classified according to the oxidation state of the iridium center and the donor atom(s) of the ligand; dinuclear and multinuclear complexes are discussed in a separate section. References make use of review articles where appropriate, as well as the primary literature. It is not the aim of this article to provide a comprehensive survey of the chemistry of iridium.
