Abstract

Frankland produced the first organometallic tin compound, Et2SnI2, in 1849. Since that time a wide range of tin compounds containing Sn[BOND]C bonds have been prepared. This article will detail the synthesis and characterization of these compounds. This will include a description of tetraorganotin compounds, halides, pseudohalides, hydrides, tin-tin bonded compounds, radicals, group 15, and group 16 derivatives. The industrial and environmental aspects of these compounds will also be discussed.
