Abstract

Stig Johansson (1939–2010) was born in Sweden but later became a Norwegian citizen. He studied at Lund and then at Indiana University, where he received a PhD in linguistics in 1968. After working as a lecturer and research fellow in Lund (1968–76) he was professor of Modern English Language at Oslo University between 1976 and 2008. He was Doctor honoris causa at Lund University, Sweden (1999), member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, and honorary member of the Japan Association for English Corpus Studies.
