According to the international standard ISO 1087–2:2000, a term bank is a “data bank containing terminological data,” i.e., “data related to concepts or their designations.” It contains terminology relevant to one or more subject fields, and can thus be compared to a dictionary of (some) language for special purposes. Term banks are maintained in the context of an institutionalized organization such as a government agency or a department of a major company.
