The justice of the sovereign was exalted in the royal ideology of early second-millennium Mesopotamia. This concept of justice had two distinct aspects, kittum (from the root k-w-n, “to be stable”), which guaranteed to each his due, and misharum (from ’-š-r, “to be straight,” factitive “make straight”), rectification of troublesome situations.
