Abstract

The agriculture–migration nexus is historically significant. The pre-agricultural hunter-gatherer society is known to have reduced its continuous and cyclical human migration with the discovery of agriculture. In other words, the discovery of the science of cultivating the land, producing crops, and raising livestock, limited human movement from one place to the other. However, with more scientific discovery and as agricultural practice became more significant for the advancement of human development, the push–pull notion of migration became intricately linked to agriculture.
