Abstract

International migration appears to be a global trend that has exceeded record levels, as over an estimated 150 million nationals reside outside their countries of origin (Martin 2001). In addition, there are those who make short trips for research, business, and tourism. This trend owes its origin to the unequal social, political, educational, and economic development in the world, which has placed some countries at a much higher advantage in relation to others and therefore people migrate either in search of real or perceived greener pastures or to “develop” the countries that are disadvantaged.
