Abstract

The migration of homosexual men and women cannot be measured as easily as can other forms of human mobility. Almost no countries include questions about sexual orientation in their census data. People with same-sex urges would often be reticent about revealing their inclinations to public authorities, especially in countries where homosexual acts remain criminalized. Furthermore, the notions of “homosexual” and “gay” are generally accepted as constructed identities, with the labels holding little relevance even for many whose erotic and romantic desires tend towards the same gender.
