Abstract

This essay will first of all, look at the migration situation during the period before “modern” times. The term “modern” as used here will be contextualized to coincide with the beginning of a mass exodus of Ghanaians in the latter part of the 20th century. The period of precolonial and colonial through to the early post-independence years before this mass emigration will be categorized as “premodern” for migration while “modern” times will span from the 1970s to the present.
