Abstract

The Philippines, officially known as the Republic of the Philippines, is a country in Southeast Asia. To its north lies Taiwan; to its west, Vietnam; to its south, Indonesia; and to its east, the vastness of the Pacific Ocean. An archipelago comprising 7,107 islands, the Philippines is endowed with natural resources which made it one of the richest areas of biodiversity in the world. With an estimated population of about 92 million people, the Philippines are the world's twelfth most populous country; an additional 11 million Filipinos live overseas.
