Abstract

Remittances are transfers, of money and goods, across geographic boundaries, often internationally by migrants in a destination country to their family, friends, or communities in a source country. This essay presents data and critically reviews literature and empirical evidence on remittances, drawn from a number of countries, as to their magnitudes, causes, and effects, especially those originating from undocumented workers.
