Abstract

The practice of seeking knowledge and intellectual attainment through spatial movement is not a new phenomenon. Indeed, education has long been a major reason for human migration. For example, many Asian mothers still cite the well-known Chinese proverb that “A good mother is ready to move three times to give [her] children a good education,” a maxim based on the Chinese philosopher Mencius's (372–289 bce) account of his mother's relocation three times to give him the best possible educational environment that would advance his capacity to reason, capacity for cognition, and for analytic reasoning.
