Abstract

Travel and migration in the late 20th and early 21st centuries are inextricably interrelated through the geographical redistribution of friends and families, the definition of search spaces, and the shaping of motivations. This is most clearly articulated in terms of lifestyle and amenity migrations, retirement migration, and visits of varying duration to friends and families (Williams & Hall 2002). Travelling on student and tourism visas has also become a means of circumventing immigration controls.
