Summary

Novel, extended-reach ligands, [R2SiO(CH2)npy]2O (where n = 0, 1 or 3 and R = Me, Ph or iPr), containing both siloxane and alkoxysilane groups have been prepared and their reactions with a range of transition metal complexes investigated. The reactions of [iPr2SiOpy]2O with CuBr2, Cul and COCl2 give complexes forming infinite one-dimensional ribbons with the ligand bridging two adjacent metals so as to form 24- or 26-membered rings.
