The ACR/ARHP Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant Postgraduate Rheumatology Training Program is now open for registration. More than 60 experts have dedicated hundreds of hours to complete this innovative program, which includes 18 hours of audio-annotated PowerPoint slides, 2,800 slides, and 631 images in 19 modules. This novel Web-based program will allow NPs, PAs, and others interested in rheumatology to have a flexible, affordable way to build competence in the care of persons with rheumatic diseases. Applications are being accepted for the 2010 Pan American League of Associations for Rheumatology (PANLAR)–Abbott Prizes in Rheumatology. The 2 prizes (in clinical or basic science research) will be presented in Atlanta during the 2010 ACR/ARHP Annual Scientific Meeting. Applicants must be ≤45 years of age as of October 1, 2010 and must live and work in a Latin American country. Applications will be judged on the basis of 1) curriculum vitae or biosketch (4-page limit), 2) 2 letters of support, 3) personal statement, 4) description of research accomplished (2-page limit), and 5) research proposal (10-page limit excluding references) in the following format: specific aims, background and significance, preliminary work (pertinent to study being proposed), and study design (methods, anticipated results, limitations, timetable). Complete applications (minus support letters) should be submitted electronically to Graciela S. Alarcón, MD, MPH, Chairperson, PANLAR-Abbott Rheumatology Prize Selection Committee (galarcon@uab.edu) and must be received on or before August 20, 2010 (4:00 PM CST). The letters of support should be sent separately to the same address. Applications will be evaluated by a team of 7 jurors from PANLAR countries; the final ranking of the applications will be based on a previously agreed upon scoring system.
