On page 2072, Shenmin Zhu, Di Zhang, and co-workers report the fabrication of a 3D network magnetite from Morpho butterfly wing using a simple two-step sol-gel method. The reported biomimetic technique provides an effective approach to produce magnetophotonic crystals, which are expected to open up an avenue for the creation of magneto-optical devices and theoretical research in this field.
