[Pt2(RCS2)4I] (R = alkyl) polymers show metallic electrical conductivity in the crystal phases. A Pt-based MMX that shows phase transitions with the temperature is presented and a novel charge-ordering state is disclosed. The polymer is finally adsorbed on an insulating surface to form conducting nanostructures. The results suggest MMX chains as candidates for molecular wires.
