born in 1946 in Annecy, France was educated in Paris and Grenoble (Agrégation, Master of Science). He then spent two years at Stanford Univesity with Prof. R. A. Huggins as a research assistant and then went back to Grenoble where he joined the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique in 1974 and received his Ph.D. (thèse d'Etat) in 1978. Director for Reearch with CNRS since 1982, his main reearch topics include intercalation compounds, and more recently (1978) polymer electrolytes, covering both fundamental and practical aspects. Applications include high energy-density batteries, for which large industrial programs are underway, electrochromic devices, sensors and photoelectrochemical cells. He act on the editorial Board for Solid-State Ionic, Journal of Power Sources, Journal of Applied Electrochemistry, and Bulletin of Electrochemistry.
