Abstract

The combination of thin-film and ferroelectric-elastomeric properties—of interest for piezoelectric and nonlinear optical applications—is the aim in preparing freely-suspended (FS) films from polymeric liquid-crystal elastomers with SmC* phases. The preparation and characterization of such films from crosslinkable SmC* polymers is reported for the first time, together with their photo-crosslinking and an investigation of the stabilization effect of the crosslinking.
