WO3 Sol–Gel Modified Ag Nanoparticle Arrays for Electrochemical Modulation of Surface Plasmon Resonance

Abstract

A simple plasmon-based electro-optical device has been realized by over-coating an array of Ag nanoparticles with WO3 sol–gel layers. This treatment had the effect of stabilizing the Ag nanoparticle arrays to such an extent that they were capable of rapidly and reversibly modulating the transmittance of the electrode by switching its externally applied potential (see Figure).
